Josh Kelley half swings an iron as the head of the club makes contact with a dart. The dart spins into the air toward a garage with a dartboard hung on it, where Kelley’s brother-in-law, Jojo Brennan, stands with his hand over the board.
The dart lands and the camera zooms in … Brennan’s hand is unharmed and they now have a viral trick shot video.
Kelley said the video took just two takes.
“I hit my first shot, and I missed about eight inches from his hand. So then we tried it again and the second shot, was the shot I stuck right close to his finger,” Kelley said.
“It actually just scraped his finger. He had like a little scrape on his pinky. Nothing serious at all.”
On Instagram the video, which was posted Sunday, is up to more than 100,000 views and 15,000 likes. The account that it’s posted on, holein1trickshots, has 237,000 followers.
Kelley got the idea for the dart video after doing a shot that involved the game Jenga. After completing the Jenga shot, he thought: how can I incorporate other games?
“The dart shot just seemed like the next step,” Kelley said. “Right as I was trying that, my brother-in-law showed up to my house. I mentioned to him ‘Hey, why don’t you stick your hand up there’ … I said it kind of joking around.”
But, nonetheless, Brennan said he’d do it.
“We definitely got lucky,” Kelley said.
The video was recorded by Kelley’s wife, Megan. Kelley said once he saw the video in slow motion, he knew it would go viral. The video has since been shared by NBC Sports and Barstool Sports’ social media accounts among others.
