Golf roundup: C-SC freshman shares medalist honors in debut

Conor Bronson’s collegiate debut is going to be tough to top.

The Culver-Stockton College freshman golfer fired a round of 2-under 70 Tuesday at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, Mo., to climb into a tie for the top spot at the Evangel Fall Invitational. Bronson tied for medalist honors at even-par 144 with Missouri Valley’s Nicolas Evangelio and Park’s Wes Buntenbach.

Bronson’s round was the lowest score of the day and tied for the lowest round in the 36-hole event.

The Wildcats finished third in the 11-team event with a 609 total. C-SC’s second-round 295 matched Missouri Valley for the low round of the day. The Vikings won the team title with a 586. Park was second at 606.

C-SC’s Hunter Bettis tied for seventh at 5-over 149 and Colton Neal tied for 10th at 153.

On the women’s side, C-SC sophomore Haley Haugh for a 186 and tied for 13th as the Wildcats finished sixth out of eight teams. C-SC posted a 793 team score, while Park won the title with a 705.

Wildcats freshman Grace Frese for a 190 to finish 18th.

Parkside Fall Classic: Quincy University junior Kyle Sachs shot back-to-back rounds of 78 and tied for 32nd with a 156 during the 36-hole event at The Club at Strawberry Creek in Kenosha, Wis.

The Hawks finished ninth in the nine-team event with a 659. Indianapolis won the event with a 586. Sophomore Nick Messinger and freshman T.J. Wensing shot 168 for QU.

Hamilton quadrangular: Wyatt McKinney shot a 39 to earn medalist honors and lead Unity to the team victory at Deer Run Golf Course in Hamilton, Ill. The Mustangs posted a 183 total, while Payson Seymour and West Hancock tied at 200. Illini West shot a 241.

Grant Ohnemus added a 44 for Unity. Brandon Daniels led the Titans with a 44, Lucas Loos led the Indians with a 46, and Jackson Murphy led the Chargers with a 47.

Pittsfield d. Williamsville: Cade Tomhave earned medalist honors with a 38 as the Saukees shot a 191 at The Rail in Springfield. Williamsville shot a 245. Griffin VanWinkle added a 50 for Pittsfield.
