Local Roundup: Missouri women’s golf No. 7 after two rounds at tournament | National

The Missouri women’s golf team is in seventh place following the second day of play at the Battle at the Beach Tournament in Mexico on Saturday.

After 36 holes, the Tigers are 19 strokes above par. They finished with a 285 in the second round, 17 strokes fewer than what they shot in the first round.

Tigers Emma Allen and Jess Yuen led the team with a 1 under on the day.

Missouri will finish the tournament Sunday.

Columbia College volleyball sweeps Lyon

The Columbia College women’s volleyball team beat Lyon College 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars (34-3) finished their sets 25-14, 25-10 and 25-13. Senior Caroline Clifford led her team with 12 kills, while Junior Manuela Vargas finished with 29 assists for Columbia.

The Cougars will compete in the AMC Championships at 6 p.m. Tuesday against Freed-Hardeman in the quarterfinals.

Columbia College men’s soccer advances to AMC semifinals

The No. 25 Columbia College men’s soccer team bested Hannibal-LaGrange 2-0 on Saturday afternoon in the AMC Championship quarterfinals.

Cougar freshman Caden Castello scored the go-ahead goal 73 minutes into the game, and sophomore Lesia Thetsane added the insurance marker a little over ten minutes later at 83:25.

Columbia advances to the AMC semifinal game at 6 p.m. Tuesday when they will host Lyon College.

Columbia College women’s basketball opens season 2-0

The Columbia College women’s basketball team beat Missouri Valley 48-44 in double overtime on Saturday evening to remain undefeated on the season.

The Cougars (2-0) concluded the 2018 Cougars VS Cancer Women’s Tip-Off Classic with a perfect record following their 72-62 win over Cardinal Stritch on Friday.

Senior Ashlee Marlatt led her team with 13 points, going 4-11 from the field.

Columbia begins AMC play at 7 p.m. on Nov. 15 when they host Stephens College.

Columbia College men’s basketball falls short against Grand View

The Columbia College basketball team lost its first game of the season on Saturday night, falling 74-67 to Grand View University.

The Cougars (1-1) went into halftime with a 43-40 lead but were outscored 34-24 in the second half.

Junior Justin Shaw led the home team in points with 14.

The team will look to improve their record when they face Westminister College at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Columbia.

Stephens basketball winless in season-opening tournament

Stephens College dropped the second and final game of the Clarke Tournament on Saturday evening.

After losing 103-47 on Friday afternoon, the Stars (0-2) couldn’t get much going on Saturday and lost 80-32 to Clarke University.

Star Makenzie Jemes led her team with eight points.

Stephens plays at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday when they visit Evangel University.
