John Bortolazzo’s Back at the 19th golf report

LAST Saturday’s event at the Griffith Golf Club was a single stroke for the December monthly medal and also the playoff round for the gold medal for players who had won a medal over the past 12 months. The gold medal winners in each grade were: A Grade Tony Catanzariti 67 nett, B Grade Jeff Wiscombe 71 nett, and C Grade Corey Saunders. Catanzariti, 67 nett, also won A Grade in the event of the day, firing 78 off the stick, draining a birdie on the 8th. Brett Polkinghorne, 71 nett, 84 off the stick runner-up, canning a birdie on the 10th. Wiscombe also won B Grade 71 nett, shooting 85, with seven pars on a countback over John Badocoo, 71 nett, 90 scratch, also with seven pars. Terry Greedy, 69 nett, won C Grade, out in 43 strokes with five pars but nearly  lost it on the back nine, crashing to 49 home. Ray Greig, 70 nett, 91 off the stick, second. Pro Pins to Trent Anderson and Ngarau Noa. Par Threes: 4th Charlie Guglielmino won the Hanwood Butchery voucher, 7th Trent Anderson, 11th Terry Greedy (Novus), 16th Sim Tuitivakke. Vouchers to 74 nett. A one grade single stableford on Sunday, won by Daniel Richens, 37 points, carding four pars from the ever improving Cody Stokes 35 points, three pars. David Kidd won the 7th pin. Vouchers to 32 points. Stokes also won the Nine Hole event on 21 points over Richens, 19 points. Dean Minato, 19 points, and Peter Gill won vouchers. **** THE Sacred Heart Parish held a family day ambrose on Sunday, only enough players for three groups who enjoyed the day followed by a barbecue. Visiting Brother Valentine from Sri Lanka, Deacon Stepnen Smith and local priest Father Christian played golf for the first time and  had a great time, lots of hits and misses and laughs. Brother Valentine picked it up fairly quickly whilst Deacon Stephen decided golf was not his game. The competition was fierce, 64 nett won followed by 64 5/8. Today’s event is a single stableford. Saturday’s single stableford is also the last chance Dollar Day with the final on Sunday for all golfers who have played to their handicap at least once over the past year. Big prizes on offer. The veterans played a single stableford last Thursday with 33 players. Roy Calabria, 35 points, won 0-18 over Dom Guglielmino, 33 points. Wal Hood, 39 points, best in 19-24 from John Bortolazzo, 35 points. Leo Franco, 39 points, won 25-36 ahead of Dick Thompson, 30 points. Roy Calabria won the 4th pin, Bill Brown 8th, Brad Fawcett 15th. Vouchers to 31 points. Another single stableford on Thursday A two grade single stableford last Wednesday saw Jeff Wiscombe 38 points best in 0-18 over Ian Smith 33 points. Robin Salvestro 37 points won 19-36 ahead of Geoff Smith 34 points. Vouchers to 32 points.
