Tuross Head Country Club mens match play winners, John Phyland and Mick Elfar, were presented with their award this week. They are the 2018 champions, beating Herb Muriwai and Paul Pereira on the 19th hole in the final. John and Mick had earlier progressed through a long knock out competition to celebrate a well deserved win. This week’s Saturday competition resulted in Greg Booth winning par round with a strong score of plus 5. Greg was followed by Dave Bray and Peter Nikolic who both finished with plus 4. Peter Johnston and Ron Rogers with plus 3 won the remaining award vouchers. Balls were awarded down to minus 1. Nearest the pins were won by A grade golfers: Bob Hay on the 4th hole with 3.46 m. Brad Doolan with 1.71 m was closest on the 6th and Riley Wilcox was best on the 7th with 3.57 m. B grade player Greg Booth won the 4th hole with a very close 13 centimetres. Bruce Handley the 6th with 2.25 m and Reg Apps the 7th with 10.5 m. C grader Andrew Gordon was awarded the 4th hole with 3.19 m. Derek Hoare the 6th with 2.74 m and Peter Dugan the 7th with 1.12 m. Thursday’s medley 18 hole stableford competition was won by Glen Shearer with 40 points ahead of Peter Dugan, Peter Nikolic and Peter Garn who all finished with 38 points. Nearest the pins were won by Al Gannon who was closest on both the 4th and 6th hole. Peter Dugan won the 7th hole. Tuross Head golfers are reminded that next Saturday’s single stableford competition will be followed by the Christmas function where players can celebrate the end of a very succesful year. NTPs 6th Hole: Tim Ganderton, George Clulee, Jim Marsden 10th Hole: Ian Keating, Chris Earl 12th Hole: Paul Mercer, Roger Marshall, Adrian Chatillon Ball Rundown went to 75 on C/B Results for December 19 With the threat of morning showers looming a smaller than normal field of 39 players registered for the final Vets game of 2018, a Stroke and Putts event. Fortunately the rain held off throughout and a number of good scores were recorded. Winner on the day was Paul Green with a nett 27 strokes, followed by Stephen Crossling beating home Neal Watson on count back on 28. Greg Thornton finished with 29. Balls or chocolates were won by Steve Johnston on 31, Paul Pereira on 32, Noel Downie on 33, Chris Wratten and Jennifer Gray on 34, and finally Bruce Ware and Alan McLeod on 35. Stephen Johnston had the putter working well to record only 12 putts for the nine holes. The Bradman award went to Jeanette Miller, a far cry from being a winning team member last week. Nearest the Pins were won by Greg Smith on the 4th, Bruce Martin on the 6th, and Kay McLeod and Peter McRae on the 7th. Wal Williams won the Accuracy award. Saturday, December 15 Only 109 players ventured on to the course in humid conditions in a rain-threatening atmosphere where the DSR emerged as a consistent 71. In A Grade Jim Grant finished on top with 39 points off his handicap of 12, followed by Colin Holmes, the Club Professional, who headed Brendan Warby, the Course Superintendent, on countback with 38 points to take second place. Gary Leahy had by far the best round of the day to take out B Grade with 43 points off his handicap of 17. Chris Fondum filled second place with 39 points, while Peter Wilson needed a countback on 37 points to take third place from Jeff Kelly, a visitor from the Brisbane club of Keperra. In C Grade a countback favoured Harold Mackie over Gil Mott to take first place with 36 points off his handicap of 26 while Rene Faurschou finished third with 35 points. The nearest-the-pin winners were Brett Thompson on 3, Mitch Jeffery on 9, Scott Kennedy on 14 and Tim Bryant from Federal on 17, while the ball competition went down to all on 34 points. Saturday, December 15 Following overnight storms we had humid conditions for 18 teams to  contest our end of year Men’s Golf Presentation Day 4 man ambrose event. And what a day it was to test relationships with plenty of whoops, hollers and cries of anguish as the birdies either dropped in or lipped out. The winning team comprised Paul Batten, Nathan Batten, Paul Rumble and Greg Maloney who, in a tight finish, scraped home with a very impressive net 54 off a combined handicap of 6. Runners-up were the team of Wayne Buick, Peter Daykin, Peter Bradley and Ian Reid with a score of 55.38. Countback needed to award third spot to Dave Chamberlin, Bill Tyson, Peter Buttrey and Bob Paine on 57. Our Captain Peter Buttrey and vice President Paul Revill thanked all of our sponsors for their generous support throughout the year and also our team of volunteer workers. Thanks to the barbecue cooks on the day who as always kept everybody entertained, well fed and happy. Bermagui Men’s Golf Award Winners for 2018 are: Club Champion is Henry Loth.
