The Menlo College men’s and women’s golf teams improved their scores in the final round of the Desert Intercollegiate Invitational, which concluded Monday. The men climbed into a tie for sixth place and the women shaved 16 strokes off their day one total.
Tom Field led the way for Menlo. He shot three strokes over on the first nine holes but rebounded with three birdies on the back nine to shoot a 74, finishing 12th overall with a total of 151.
Jayrick Joseph Cadelina-Canyete finished with a 75, matching Field with three birdies, and improving by 12 strokes.
Christian Ingul shot a 76 for a 154 overall, besting his brother Fredrik Ingul by two strokes. Frerik finished inside the top-25 individuals with a 78 in the final round, finishing with a 153. Vincent Fauria shot a 79 for the second consecutive day and finished with a total of 158.
Texas Wesleyan edged Oregon Tech for the team title. Oregon Tech’s Mayson Tibbs earned medalist honors with a total of 137, including 65 on the final round.
Menlo finished with a 611, along with The Master’s and William Jessup.
The women placed seventh overall. Julika Grosspietsch improved eight strokes from day one, firing a 77 in the final round. Heli Cha earned her best round of the season with an 89, an improvement of 11 strokes. Cha also recorded two of the team’s three birdies on the day.
Taylor Robinson finished second on the Oaks with a 188 overall (95-93) and Addison Hemming matched Cha with a 189 (92-97).
British Columbia won the team title 25 strokes over Embry-Riddle. B.C.’s Kate Johnston shot a 149 for medalist honors. Grosspietsch finished tenth.
The invitational represents the final tournament until the GSAC Championships for the men’s team.
The women will be in action again on April 8-9 at the Sonoma State Spring Invitational, set to be played at the Santa Rosa Country Club in Santa Rosa.
