The Detroit Sports Media Annual Charity Golf Scramble has been going on for 32 years and no one has ever won the Hole-in-One Challenge, until now.
DSM, formerly known as the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association, presented Nick Stark of Clinton Township with a $10,000 check and additional prizes Aug. 17 for a hole-in-one shot he sunk at the organization’s annual charity golf outing.
Stark, an amateur golfer is the first person to ace a hole-in-one in the history of the DSM Annual Charity Golf Scramble!
The charity golf outing was held on July 9, 2018, at the Cherry Creek Golf Club in Shelby Township. Stark’s Hole-in-One Challenge, one of five at the outing, was achieved on No.12 hole at Cherry Creek; a par-three, with a distance of 193 yards from the tee to the flag. Stark pulled a three iron from his bag and drove a shot that landed seven feet in on the green, and rolled roughly 15 feet straight into the cup!
“In 27 years of golfing, this is my first hole-in-one,” said Stark. “It looked good coming off the club, but I actually turned my back on it for a moment. I’m so glad the hole-monitor was there to witness it rolling in the cup!”
Stark and his family joined Detroit Sports Media officers at Cadillac of Novi for the historic check presentation. Stark was presented with a check for $10,000 from the DSM and American Hole-in-One, along with a $1,000 YETI prize pack from Cadillac of Novi, an eight-year sponsor of the DSM golf outing who provides prizes annually for each Hole-in-One Challenge hole.
The Detroit Sports Media Annual Charity Golf Scramble raises funds to distribute scholarships to sports media students, annual grants to area high schools for broadcast equipment to enable student announcers, reporters, and journalists to stream and broadcast their sports and academic events, and community initiatives for causes like Autism Spectrum Disorder.
The DSM, created in 1948 as the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association, is the only local sports media association remaining in United States.
