HOW TO AIM YOUR GOLF SHOTS

  1. Know it’s not a golf question was thinking of purchasing that coffee machine you have !! Do you have to ground your own coffee or can you use the package ground coffee cheers bruh

  2. Makes sense bruv but being able to do it is another matter. I play more stack and tilt and the grid works great with this and i use this when and if i practice

  3. Been playing for a few months now. I line up parallel and as of late (had a tendency to have my feet lined up closed to target when i started) I'm hitting a mix of baby draws and fades as well as the occasional shank… maybe occasional is too soft a word

  4. This makes sense and should be a must watch for all golfers regardless of skill. I struggled with this for a long while (am self taught). I would hit really high block right shots and then check everything in the world to try and fix it. Is it my backswing? Is it my grip? Are my hips firing so fast that my torso cannot catch up and causing me to get stuck and present an open club face to the ball at impact? No. No. No. Noonononononononono. None of those things. It turns out that my golf swing was actually pretty good. (good for a self taught hacker at least) I simply looked at my feet and thought that if they were parallel to the target line then all was good. It turns out that my feet and waist and shoulders were all slightly misaligned from one another. What I thought was "straight" actually wasn't. Realizing this made a ll the difference for me. I think that most weekend golfers like me rarely set themselves up "square" as they believe that they are.

The more I play this game the more convinced I become that grip, setup, stance and ball position account for about 95% of where your shot is going to end up. If I'm right about that (I think I am) then why is sooooooooooooooo much MORE focus placed on the actual act of swinging the bat?

  5. Makes sense. I really struggle at times where I am pretty good in to out with my driver, but on short iron shots and pitches/chips I just can't find the bottom of my swing consistently and I just get so steep. That leads to chunks, bladed shots, etc.

  6. I always get told I’m aiming sooo far right. I did this to help my path with driver get more ‘in to out’ as it gives me more room on the downswing. It makes me draw my irons….. the other day having not played for a while I was fading my irons (played an iron only round for the first time) and I couldn’t understand why. I understand it was probably face related but could be other issues.
All interesting and this video has made me think more about it

  7. After getting really good lessons it blew my mind. For me to shape the golf ball consistently, I stand the opposite to how most people expect. For me, a draw is stand very open (where I want to finish roughly) and then I can visualise the line I need to swing on much easier. cuts I stand relatively neutral and squeeze it out. My feeling is hands beating the club head and punchier follow through.

  8. I set up open to target and swing out -> in with a slightly open face. I'm not steep either so the result is a fairly consistent low-spinning fade. My miss is either a straight pull (always still in play) or a massive slice (search party!).
This is less about me wanting to hit a fade and more about just embracing my bodies natural tendencies.

  9. Good vid for for me, as I've started to move my feet around for different lies, downhill and ball above lies especially, in order to keep my swing aim straight. I struggle with everything above the hips, I feel that unless I can bring the club back into my "slot" at the top of the backswing, then it's chaos golf for me. So there's no deliberate draws or fades from my swing.

  10. Best alignment lesson ever. With my short clubs I Line up a little open but thats just to keep me from over turning I guess. I line up parallel otherwise. I like a little cut but i can draw it if I need to but its too hard to control for me.

  11. Really good way of describing alignment. It makes total sense to me although I cant pull it off all the time. My miss has always been a high fade (lack of rotation / steep swing) so I quite often just drop my right foot back slightly which just helps me feel like there is more room to rotate back around myself and often helps to get me to a  0 path. Sometimes however I end up over exaggerating the path and end up with a slight left ball. Generally it helps me feel that I can hit harder as its less likely to fly high and right.

  12. I aim at the target or slightly left. my ball flight is straight or a slight draw.  My problem is hitting greens is regulation. I miss them in the fringe or in bunkers with usually means a lost strike and making bogey instead of hitting the green in regulation and making par.

  13. Depends which club I hit, my driver I tend to have a slight fade so aim slightly left. My Ricky dink though I can only manage to draw it so have to aim right.

I also try to aim according to conditions. Today I played on a course where every fairway sloped to the sea. Proper lynx hard fairways. So anything landing centre of fairway was in the rough after roll out. Was great challenge because there was a lot of houses either side of the course.

  14. Clubhead aiming at target with feet and shoulders left of target on a parallel ‘railway tracks’ aim. Tend to hit the ball either straight or slight fade

  15. This does make sense, however I often find it difficult to implement on a range on range matts. The shape and direction of the Matt always subconsciously draws your eye and you then end up with a path travelling square to the mat, but often the face way off to this, resulting in over books and slices instead of gentle faces of draws

  16. Hi Mark, went for a driver fitting today. Very interesting. Thought I would change my V Series Callaway to the Epic Sub Zero.
Absolutely no difference in the numbers, Avg swing speed 85 mph carrying at 204. So much for technology. So, my question to you is..what is the best way to increase my swing speed?
    Cheers…Michael

  17. tend to aim left as i fade it right… yes i know that makes it worse but it tends to keep the ball in play.. setting up parallel to hole ill lose it well right doh

  18. After stating to play golf after 12 or so years of not playing ( having a family and no time to play ) I have the bug back !! I have had a few refresher lessons and my flight is now a slight fade after changing my grip to a more neutral grip

  19. Love the blog as usual, 3.58 ask Dan a question don't even stop for breath, keep talking and move on. Poor Dan doesn't have a chance to get a word in. Classic MC.

  20. Used to push shorter shots and pull longer ones. Then my mate made me realize that i was aiming straight at the flag with my feet and club /. Tried to aim more in a parallel way | | if that make any sense and got a bit more consistant

  21. What's interesting is that I haven't heard many people talk about aim (aside from this channel). It's a bit like decent players assume everyone has aim down but I just started "seeing lines" when I putt and it's like another world.

  22. Gutted that I didn’t win the cruise comp. However, recording my swing, showed me just how much I swing around my body and had enabled me to adjust my swing so it is higher.

  23. I set up left , aim left and hit a fade/pull fade subject on strike. Last round i had 2 cross misses with my 16* rinky dink but my driver was on point and iron was pretty solid. so over all it was a good round for a month of not playing

  24. 2018 and we are still talking about feet when aiming. Last time I looked the club is attached to hands arms and shoulders. Do some slow practice swings and feel where your shoulders are pointing at the moment of impact. This will be the over riding direction that the ball will start on.

  25. For fades, I tend to aim at the target and swing left. For draws, I aim a little right and swing right of that to get the draw spin. I’m currently drawing it.

  26. My eyes are wonky like Dan's and as a result when I "think" I'm aligned (feet and shoulders to target) and then swing along that line I'm actually about 6 in to out with a face aligned at target so big over draw. When I put a club down and ensure by feet and shoulders are aligned and swing now along that line I can hit a centre struck straight shot – woo hoo. For me I can move path (I think its an easy to learn skill ONCE you know that is what you are doing! If I know my stance is open I can over ride it – if I know my stance is closed I can override it – its when I THINK its neutral but its open or closed – that's when the problems start. I'm constantly having to check and recheck alignment !!!

  27. Makes sense but as a high handicapper, some tips on how I can work on having this skill set would be great. Keep up the great work. Your thought provoking videos fuel my desire to improve my game.
